|NewsFun Run 2010
This year’s Penicuik Cricket Club ‘10K Fun-Run’ was a fantastic success on April 4th when 23 brave souls tested themselves. The event took place on a lovely sunny morning as Kirkhill recovered from terrible snow earlier in the week. All participants enjoyed a good warm-up as preparations got underway and when everyone was ready the race began.
It was great to have so many volunteers acting as marshalls and this meant that the event was extremely well organised and all competitors found the course to be a tricky but fair challenge.
So who won?? Well this year Penicuik’s great cricketer / footballer Kris Steel managed to outdo everyone and his time of 42m 19s was almost 2.5 minutes quicker that all opponents with Mark Wilson coming second and Russell Hendry third. Alan Black was really proud of his finish in fourth place and George Nisbet came fifth. The first female finisher was Louise Campbell in 14th place in a time of 56m 36s.
In the conditions of spring snow these times were fantastic and all competitors deserve great praise.

|Great News - Penicuik Survive 2009!Penicuik defeated APD Dumfries by 7 wickets and retained our position in National League Division 1.
Captain Keith Morton won the toss and chose to bowl. This proved to be the correct course of action as Dumfries found run scoring very difficult from the start, and regularly lost wickets.
Each of our bowlers performed superbly well and rsetricted run scoring opportunities. John Hutton took 3 for 28, Keith Morton took 2 for 29, Mohammed Ramzan took 1 for 24 and Anjum Aslam 1 for 26. Neither Willie Morton nor Ian Kirkhope took a wicket but both bowled very well.
The whole team put in great efforts on the field. Willie Morton took two catches while Mohammed Ramzan, Freddie Coleman and Anjum Aslam took one each.
Our opening batting partnership of Mohammed Ramzan and Freddie Coleman settled in well. They both took time to master the conditions but put on over 50 runs before Freddie was unfortunately adjudged LBW for 30. Anjum Aslam came in at number 3 and he and Mo put on another 50 before Mo was caught after scoring 28. Thanks must be given to Fouldsy who acted as a runner for Mo who suffered from cramps.
Unfortunately, Anjum was out for 39 as we closed in on the wimning target. This left Greg Ruthven and Willie Morton to get us home. Although Greg hit a couple of fine boundaries, it was perhaps inevitable that The Boss hit the winning runs with a fine off drive for 4.
Bring on 2010!
Tesco Schools Vouchers
|We have now registered the Cricket Club with Tesco for Schools and Clubs. We are trying to get much needed new equipment for the club through the scheme. Our goal is to collect 5,000 vouchers so that we can get First Aid kits for our teams and some sports training equipment for the kids. Obviously we can’t do this without the support from the members so I want to appeal to everyone connected to the club to donate their vouchers to us. Feel free to encourage family and friends to donate theirs too.|
|We appreciate some people collect for relatives who may be at school, however all donations from you can make such a difference to our relatively small target.|
|Vouchers are available in store until 9th May 2010. You can also earn vouchers by recycling your used inkjet cartridges and old mobile phones.|
|A collection box has been set up within the clubhouse so you can just pop your collected vouchers into it or indeed you can sent any by post to George Liddle at 17 Ravelsykes Road, Penicuik, EH26 9JG.|
|We intend to update the progress of the collection on a weekly basis through the website and on the target board within the club.|
|So if you shop at Tesco, please think Club vouchers. As the company says “Every little helps”|
